Ed Smith (born January 3, 1986 in Bristol ) is a British skeleton athlete .

Ed Smith started out swimming and weightlifting and worked as an electrical contractor until 2012 . He started skeleton in 2008 and has been a member of the UK national team ever since. He contested his first international race in the 2008/09 season in the European Skeleton Cup . In his first race in December 2008 in Igls , he finished 27th. In the 2010/11 season regularly followed by other races. In Cesana he achieved a single-digit placement for the first time in November 2010 when he came fifth. In Igls he won the third race of the season of the European Cup ahead of Paul Fraser and Christian Baude . In December, Smith achieved another podium finish in Winterberg behind Baude in second place and also won the last race of the season in St. Moritz . He was fourth in the overall ranking of the competition. In the 2011/12 season he started in the higher-class Intercontinental Cup for the first time and finished third in his first race. After a total of four third places, he was also third in the overall ranking. In January 2012, he also played the second half of the European Cup season and won another victory. He took part in the World Championship in Lake Placid and reached 14th place there.

In the 2012/13 season Ed Smith made his debut in the World Cup. He placed 10th to 19th in all eight races of the season and was 13th in the overall World Cup. At the 2013 World Cup in St. Moritz, he finished 15th. Smith also started in the World Cup in 2013/14 , but only finished in the top 20 in three races of the season. He started the 2014/15 season with three races in the Intercontinental Cup before returning to the World Cup , where his best placement after starting six of the eight Race of the season was a 16th place at the season finale in Sochi .
