history

The diocese of Agartala was established on January 11, 1996 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Venerabiles Fratres from ceding territories of the diocese of Silchar and subordinated to the archdiocese of Shillong as a suffragan . First Bishop was Lumen Monteiro CSC .
