Macbrideola is a genus of slime mold fromthe Stemonitidae family and comprises sixteen species.

features

The fruiting bodies are very small, stalked sporocarps , the tube-like stalk of which consists of fibers arranged in parallel and is usually colored translucent black-brown to red-brown, but the base is lighter. The peridium becomes obsolete early on or becomes permanent. The columella extends from the stem through at least half the sporocarp.

The scalp is usually branched one to several dichotomously. The spores are dark brown in bulk, gray-brown to purple- brown in transmitted light .

distribution

The genus is distributed worldwide, only two species ( Macbrideola cornea , Macbrideola martinii ), however, are also found in German-speaking countries. The most common species is Macbrideola decapillata . Preference is given to colonizing the bark of living trees and climbing plants.

Systematics and research history

The genus was first described by Henry Clark Gilbert in 1934 , the type species is Macbrideola scintillans . The genus includes sixteen species:
