Wolfgang Nowotny

Wolfgang Nowotny (born November 7, 1946 in Grieskirchen ) is an Austrian teacher and internationally recognized expert on slime mold . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Nowotny ".

Nowotny attended school in Riedau and Andorf and, after attending the episcopal teachers' seminar in Linz (1960 to 1965), was a primary school teacher in Freistadt and Zell an der Pram and, from 1968 until retirement in 2001, was a secondary school teacher in Andorf (subjects mathematics, biology, technical works). He lives in Riedau.

He initially dealt with wood-dwelling fungi and from 1977 with myxomycetes , from 1985 mainly with nivicolous species (i.e. those that grow at the time of snowmelt and only form fruiting bodies after a long period of time under a blanket of snow).

In addition to scientific essays, he wrote a standard work on slime mold with the magistrate Hermann Neubert and the nature photographer Karlheinz Baumann , which they self-published ( Die Myxomyceten Deutschlands and the neighboring Alpine region, with special emphasis on Austria ).
