Karlheinz Baumann (born February 15, 1938 in Gomaringen ) is a producer, author, nature filmmaker and nature photographer. Topics are myxomycetes (slime molds), orchids , fungi , insects and the ecology of animals and plants in the Swabian Alb . His botanical-mycological author's abbreviation is " K.Baumann ".

Karlheinz Baumann is particularly interested in slime molds (myxomycetes). One of his first films, "Tierpflanze oder Pflanzentier" - filmed over thirty years ago - dealt with these unusual creatures. Baumann is a globally recognized expert. With around 4000 slime molds, it can refer to one of the most extensive collections of all. The three-volume compendium Die Myxomyceten Deutschlands and the neighboring Alpine region, which he published himself with Hermann Neubert and Wolfgang Nowotny, is considered a standard work.

biography

After completing his commercial training, he worked as a freelance businessman until 1976. Even in his youth, he was involved in film and photography. He published his first complete documentaries and photos in the 1970s. Baumann has been working full-time and freelance as a producer, author, nature filmmaker and photographer since 1977. Since then he has made over 70 films. The focus was on: Documentation on orchids, mushrooms, myxomycetes (slime molds, see “ As if they were not from this world - the impossible way of life of slime molds ”), insects as well as animals, plants and the ecology of the Swabian Alb, time-lapse recordings. He also made commissioned work for ZDF , WDR , SWR , NDR , Arte and the Institute for Film and Image . For years he has been working intensively with the science editor Volker Arzt for various television productions (e.g. TERRA X), publications in the magazines GEO, natur + kosmos, Kraut und Rüben; Book publications. In 1992 he founded the Karlheinz Baumann Verlag.
