As if they weren't from this world - The impossible way of life of slime molds is a multiple award-winning documentary about slime molds by Karlheinz Baumann and Volker Arzt . It is a co-production by Arte and the WDR .
Karlheinz Baumann shot the documentary in the forests of Canada , in the Imperial Gardens of Tokyo , in the Austrian Alps and also in German forests.

The documentation begins after a short introduction with an everyday example of an encounter between humans and slime molds. In addition to the way of life of the slime molds, Karlheinz Baumann's way of working while filming living things is shown. His six-minute film The Slime Mold That Came Out of the Cold can also be seen. Finally, the ability of slime molds to organize themselves intelligently in labyrinths is documented. The "lifestyle" of the slime molds is illustrated by numerous recordings with the time-lapse camera.
