The Stemonitidae is a family of the Myxogastria . It is the only family of the order of the Stemonitida and comprises ten genera. The group is spread around the world.

features

It is characteristic of the Stemonitidae that their Plasmodium always represents a so-called Aphanoplasmodium . As a rule, there is a columella , from which the scalp grows. There are no limescale deposits. The spores are mostly dark, mostly blackish or brownish-purple.

Systematics

The family was first described by Józef Tomasz Rostafiński in 1873 , and in 1922 Thomas Huston Macbride put it into its own order. There is disagreement about the internal system, some European authors ( Nannenga-Bremekamp , Mitchell, Baumann et al.) Divide the family into up to eighteen genres. The following system is based on Dykstra and Keller 2000. The genus Schenella contained there, however, whose taxonomic status was unclear for a long time, was found to be a representative of the Gasteromycetes through molecular genetic studies in 2005.
