Sekou Jabateh Oliseh (born June 5, 1990 in Monrovia , Liberia ) is a Liberian- Nigerian football player on the position of midfielder , who can also be used as a striker and on the wings . He is currently playing for the Russian first division club CSKA Moscow . While he only comes up with his first name Sekou ( Russian Секу), he is known almost exclusively under the name Jabateh in his native Liberia.
He is the adopted son of the former professional soccer player and current soccer coach Churchill Oliseh , who is among other things considered to be the discoverer of the Nigerian soccer talent Obafemi Martins . Sekou Oliseh's uncle Azubuike Oliseh , Egutu Oliseh and Sunday Oliseh are or were also active in professional football.
Club career
Career start in Nigeria and move to Denmark
Born in 1990 in the Liberian capital, Oliseh came to Nigeria as a refugee from the Liberian Civil War at a young age , where he was taken from a refugee camp by Churchill Oliseh, adopted and brought to the game of football. After the boy had been active in Nigeria for several years, he came to his country of birth for a short time as a teenager, where he worked in the youth department of the Liberian first division club Gedi & Sons . After his return to Nigeria he was demonstrably active in the youth division of FC Ebedei from 2005 to 2006 , where his adoptive father is still active as president and coach. Due to the cooperation of FC Ebedei, which is to be regarded as a branch or sister club of FC Midtjylland, the young Liberian-Nigerian talent made the leap into Danish football in January 2007 . In the beginning he was mainly used in the club's own youth team and the academy and finally made his professional debut in the 2008/09 season .
Professional debut at FC Midtjylland
He came on July 31, 2008 in the UEFA Cup qualifying first leg against Bangor City (4-0 win) for use and was substituted at half time for the Norwegian Petter Furuseth . Then it took about three months until Oliseh came on October 26, 2008 in the 0-3 away defeat against Brøndby IF at halftime for the Swedish striker Ken Fagerberg and thus made his debut in the top Danish football league. Oliseh was at U-19 level at this point and at that point had not even made it into the squad of the club's second combat team. After a few more conscripts into the professional squad, Oliseh was finally brought into the squad of the second team in April 2009, for which he was henceforth used. At the same time, he was in three other league games of the professional team in May 2009, but did not get beyond short appearances as a substitute player. He previously ended his U-19 career in March of the same year.
With a fourth place in the final standings of the 2008/09 season, Oliseh started with the professional team in the 2009/10 season , in which, however, he was again mainly used in the second team. Nevertheless, he made it to an appearance in the super league this season, but was invited to a trial training session in Russia at CSKA Moscow in August 2009 for several days . At the end of June 2009, Lok Moscow , another Russian club, expressed its interest in the offensive talent and brought the young player to a training camp in Austria for around two weeks of trial training. After the transfer to Lok Moscow did not work out, the club announced on September 1, 2009 that Oliseh had switched to CSKA Moscow on loan. There he signed a loan agreement until the end of the year, which also included a purchase option.
Made-to-measure debut at CSKA Moscow
At the Russian first division he made a debut when he came on October 4, 2009 in a 4-0 win over Kuban Krasnodar in the 69th minute for center forward Tomáš Necid on the pitch. He succeeded in the 74 minute pass for the 2-0 lead by Miloš Krasić , who was only decisive for the final 4-0 success of the capital club, which was sealed by a header from Oliseh in the 80th minute of the game. Four more championship appearances followed by the end of the season. After that, Oliseh only made his debut in the UEFA Champions League and then left for the winter break of the 2009 game year . In the Champions League group game against Beşiktaş Istanbul on December 8, 2009, Oliseh came on in the 82nd minute for the injured Krasić; the game ended after a late opening goal by Yevgeny Valeryevich Aldonin (95th) in a 2-1 away win for the Russians. The team then made it to the quarter-finals of the competition , where it was eliminated from the current tournament against the eventual CL winner Inter Milan with a total score of 0: 2. For the native Liberian, however, it was no longer enough for another Champions League appearance. In December 2009, Oliseh was taken under contract by the Russian capital city club, because they drew the option to buy and submitted a five-year contract to him. In March 2010, Oliseh was at the Russian Supercup of the year 2010 in the squad of CSKA Moscow, but sat on the bench for the entire game.
In the 2010 game year , the fast and agile offensive player was already used regularly, but was still unable to celebrate a real breakthrough. Instead, he was active in five games of the Russian Youth Championship in which he scored one goal. He was there in two matches last year, where he also scored one goal. After a long break in play, he did not find his way back to the professional team until May, in the tenth championship round, where he only made a brief assignment. Since the game was interrupted until July 8, 2010 due to the soccer World Cup 2010 , Oliseh had enough time to prepare for any missions after the World Cup. After the World Cup finals in South Africa, the committed midfielder was often used in the Premier League from the start and was already an integral part of the Moscow team by the end of the season, where he was mostly on the pitch for the entire duration of the game. At the end of the season, Oliseh was with the team six points behind Zenit St. Petersburg runner-up in Russia's top football league. The 20-year-old was used in 16 league games in which he scored three goals and gave two assists. There were also two missions and one assist in the Europa League qualification 2010/11 , as well as five missions (1 goal + 2 assists) in the subsequent main competition, in which the team is currently (as of December 2010) after five of the six Group games won (+ a draw), is in the round of 16 of the tournament . Due to its placement in the Premjer-Liga final table, Sekou Oliseh will also take part in the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League .
In the winter of 2013, Oliseh was awarded to PAOK Thessaloniki until the end of the season .
National team career
Already at a young age, the Mandinka people received many calls-up from Nigerian junior national teams, all of which he refused because he only wanted to play for his country of birth. While CSKA Moscow reported in August 2010 that Oliseh had been called up to the Liberian national team , the versatile player was finally called up in September 2010 by the head coach of the Liberian national team, the Hungarian Bertalan Bicskei , for a qualifier for the 2012 African Cup of Nations against Zimbabwe . In an interview he said that it was thanks to the influence of the former Liberian world footballer George Weah that he found his way into the Liberian national team. He finally made his national team debut on September 5 in a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe, when he played through the full match and in the 79th minute, after being presented by Solomon Grimes , headed the 1-1 draw. About a month later he was in action again for the full duration of the match in the qualifying game against Mali .
Currently (as of December 2010) Oliseh is taking part in the qualifying games for the football tournament of the 2012 Summer Olympics with the Liberian U-23 team.
