Under his leadership, the Hungarian U18 national team won the European Championship in Moscow in 1984 . After his time as an association coach, Bicskei turned to a new challenge as a club coach and led Honvéd Budapest to the Hungarian championship and the cup final. The highlight of his career so far followed in 1989/90 with his commitment as a Hungarian national coach.
