The Malian national soccer team is the selection of the best Malian soccer players . The team's nickname is "The Eagles " (Les Aigles). Mali has never qualified for a World Cup so far . Although the association has been a member of FIFA since 1962 , Mali took part in a World Cup qualification for the first time in 2000 .
In March 2005 there was a riot in Bamako after Mali lost a World Cup qualifier against Togo 2-1.
