Soumaila Coulibaly (born April 15, 1978 in Bamako ) is a former Malian soccer player who was last under contract with Yanbian Funde in China .

Career

Coulibaly started playing football at Djoliba AC Bamako. He came to Zamalek Cairo in Egypt in 1999 via AS Real Bamako . In 2000 he moved to the Bundesliga for SC Freiburg , for which he scored 18 goals in 113 Bundesliga games and 19 goals in 94 second division games. In the 2006/07 season Coulibaly was team captain of SC Freiburg.

For the 2007/08 season he moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach . The offensive midfielder received a contract with the "foals" until June 2010. In early November 2008, however, he was removed from the professional squad by coach Hans Meyer .

For the 2009/10 season he signed a one-year contract with FSV Frankfurt . After he was only used sporadically in the preliminary round and after a catastrophic start to the second half of the season by coach Hans-Jürgen Boysen, along with a few other players, he was even eliminated from the first team's squad, the club terminated the contract with Coulibaly in February 2010 at his request .

On May 8, 2011 he was signed by the Chinese second division club Yanbian Funde and ended his career there after two seasons.

For the Malian national football team , Coulibaly played at least 43 international matches.

His younger brother Boubacar Coulibaly was also part of the SC Freiburg professional squad in the 2006/07 season.
