Impact on the FIFA World Ranking
The games are counted as friendly games by FIFA and are therefore less weighted than games at the African Cup of Nations . While winners Libya lost six places in the FIFA world rankings , fourth-placed Zimbabwe improved by five places. Quarter-finalist Mali even fell by 19 places. In most cases, more decisive than winning points at the Nations Cup was that points from previous African Championships were regularly out of valuation or their value was downgraded.
