The Burundian national football team is subordinate to the national football association Fédération de Football du Burundi . The team has not yet qualified for a world championship. In 2019 the team took part in the Africa Cup for the first time.

In their first home game in the history of World Cup qualification on October 25, 1992, the Burundian national team achieved a sensational 1-0 victory over Ghana , which had recently become the first African team to win a medal in football at the Olympic Games in Barcelona .
