The 32nd edition of the CECAFA-Cup , officially the 2008 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup , took place from December 31, 2008 to January 13, 2009 in Uganda. Ten East and Central African teams played here for the title of East and Central African champions. Uganda won its tenth title.

The tournament was originally supposed to take place in Kampala from November 8-22 . Eritrea withdrew its participation shortly before the start of the tournament. Zambia was nominated for him. Ethiopia were banned from participating due to a FIFA suspension.

The prize money was $ 30,000 for the winner, $ 20,000 for the runner-up, and $ 10,000 for the tournament runner-up.

Game mode

The 10 participating countries played in two groups of five teams each. The group winners and runners-up qualified for the quarter-finals. The two semi-final winners played for the title in the final. The semi-final losers played for 3rd place.
