The 28th edition of the CECAFA Cup , officially the 2004 Amoudi Senior Challenge Cup , took place from December 11th to 25th, 2004 in Ethiopia . Nine East and Central African teams played here for the title of East and Central African champions. Ethiopia won its third title. Eritrea and Djibouti withdrew their participation.

The tournament was renamed in honor of the sponsor Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al Amoudi , the owner of Saint-George SA .

Game mode

The nine participating countries played in two groups with four and five teams each. The group runner-up played against the group leader of the other group in the semi-finals. The two semi-final winners played for the title in the final. The semi-final losers played for 3rd place.
