The second edition of the CECAFA Cup , officially the 1974 Palmares CECAFA Championship , took place in Tanzania in 1974 . Six East and Central African teams played here for the title of East and Central African champions. Host Tanzania won their first title. The CECAFA Cup is considered the successor to the East and Central African Senior Challenge Cup .

The six participating countries played in two groups of three teams each. The two group winners played for the title in the final.
