The fourth edition of the CECAFA Cup , officially the 1976 Palmares CECAFA Championship , took place on November 6-14, 1976 in Zanzibar . Seven East and Central African teams played here for the title of East and Central African champions. Uganda won its second title. The CECAFA Cup is considered the successor to the East and Central African Senior Challenge Cup .
The seven participating countries played in two groups with three and four teams respectively. The group runner-up played against the group leader of the other group in the semi-finals. The two semi-final winners played for the title in the final.
