The CECAFA Cup 2011 , officially the CECAFA Tusker Challenge Cup 2011 , was the 35th edition of the soccer competition for East and Central African national teams. It was held from November 25th to December 10th 2011 in the Tanzanian capital Dar es Salaam and Chamazi . Ten member associations of the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations and two invited teams from the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations took part in the tournament.

Game mode

The twelve participating countries play in three groups with four teams each. The group winners and runners-up as well as the two best thirds in the group qualify for the quarter-finals. The winners play in the semi-finals for a place in the final. The losers in the semi-finals play for third place.
