The 24th edition of the CECAFA Cup , officially the 2000 Palmares CECAFA Championship , took place from November 18 to December 2, 2000 in Uganda . Nine East and Central African teams played here for the title of East and Central African champions. Uganda won its eighth title.
Game mode
Tanzania boycotted the games because the CECACFA chose Uganda. Originally, four groups of three were planned. Djibouti withdrew its participation for financial reasons. The reasons for Zanzibar and Sudan's resignation are unknown.
The nine participating teams from eight countries played in two groups of four and five teams each. The group runner-up played against the group leader of the other group in the semi-finals. The two semi-final winners played for the title in the final. The semi-final losers played for 3rd place.
