history
On April 8, 2011, the National Football Association was founded by the Minister of Sports, Makuac Teny Youk . Oliver Mori Benjamin was appointed president of the association . The following month Sally Samuel Lolako was appointed technical director of the team and Malesh Soro was awarded a contract as national coach.
After the founding of the new state on July 9, 2011, the team played a game against the Kenyan top division club Tusker FC as part of the celebrations the following day . The game played in the Juba Stadium was lost by South Sudan after a two-week training camp with 1: 3; The only goalscorer of the national team - besides two own goals - was James Joseph , the armband was worn by Khamis Leiluno . Originally a game against the Kenyan national team was planned; however, this canceled.
As part of the 34th General Assembly of the Confédération Africaine de Football , the SSFA was accepted into the African continental association on February 10, 2012. Two months later, Chabur Goc Alei replaced Association President Benjamin. On May 25, 2012, the 62nd FIFA Congress decided to change the admission rules so that national associations that have only been members of their continental association for less than two years can subsequently be admitted. On the same day, the South Sudanese Association was admitted to the World Football Association due to this new regulation.
On July 10, 2012, the national team played their first FIFA-recognized international match against Uganda in Juba . The new national coach was the internationally experienced Serb Zoran Đorđević . The game ended after goals from Richard Justin and James Joseph 2-2.
From November 24, 2012, the South Sudanese national soccer team took part in their first tournament. She was part of the starting field of the East and Central African Championship in Uganda . There they were eliminated after the preliminary round after three defeats in three games (and without having scored a goal) from bottom of the table. At the CECAFA Cup 2013 in Kenya , the team did not get beyond the preliminary round. All three group games were lost again and two goals were scored.
On September 4, 2015, the South Sudanese national soccer team achieved their first victory. In the qualifying game for the 2017 African Cup of Nations, they beat Equatorial Guinea 1-0 through a goal from Chol Peter Bentiu Daniel at their home country Juba Stadium .
