The Nigerien national soccer team , also called Mena , is the soccer team of Niger and is subordinate to the Fédération Nigérienne de Football . The Fédération Nigérienne de Football belongs to the African football association Confédération Africaine de Football .
You have not yet been able to qualify for the finals of the World Cup.
The team's greatest successes are third place at the 1986 West African Cup, the quarter-finals at the 2011 African Cup of Nations and victory over reigning Africa Cup champions Egypt in qualifying for the 2012 African Cup . This victory was the cornerstone for Niger's first participation in an African Championship . The nickname Mena is in the Hausa language the term for the Damagazelle , which is native to Niger. This animal also adorns the crest of the association and the national jersey.
