The African Nations Cup 1970 ( Engl. : African Cup of Nations , French. : Coupe d'Afrique des Nations ) was the seventh playout of the African continental championship in football and was the second time after 1957 from February 6 to 16 Sudan held . Organized by the African continental football federation Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), eight teams from the Republic of VA , Ethiopia , DR Congo , Ghana , Guinea , Ivory Coast , Cameroon and Sudan took part.
As in previous years, there was also a qualification to reduce the field of participants with a record number of 23 applicants to eight finalists, with the host Sudan and defending champions DR Congo automatically qualified.

As usual, the game was played with two groups of four teams each. The two best teams in each group then played the tournament winner from the semi-finals in the knockout system . The final round matches were played in the Khartoum stadium in the Sudanese capital Khartoum and in the Wad Madani stadium in Wad Madani .
Host Sudan used their home advantage, won the tournament and became African champions in football for the first time.
