Sporocarp

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The sporocarp is the spore-forming fruiting body of the slime mold with spores formed inside ( endogenously ). Very densely arranged sporocarpies are called pseudoaethalium ; fused sporocarpies form an aethalium . Fructifications of slime molds with spores formed on the outside ( exogenously ) are called sporophores .

The organism of a slime mold consists of a misshapen, multinucleated mass, the plasmodium . In order to form spores, the cell organizes itself into a sporocarp. For this purpose, the plasma mass straightens up and forms fructifications, some of which contain the spores . The spore-bearing part is called the sporocarpus . The shell of the sporocarpus is called peridia . The scalp is the thread system inside the sporocarpy.

The spore containers or clusters of spores of the clover ferns and water ferns ( Salvinia , Azolla , Pilularia and Marsilea ), which are completely enclosed by a thick veil , are also referred to as sporocarpies.
