Christian Körner (* 29. March 1949 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian-Swiss botanist and emeritus professors at the University of Basel .

Life

Christian Körner studied biology and geosciences at the University of Innsbruck under Walter Larcher, among others . In 1989 he became full professor of botany at the University of Basel .

He is one of the five authors of Strasburger , the standard textbook for universities in botany in biology studies.

Körner's research focuses on the experimental ecology of plants, in particular plants in the high mountains and in the forest sector. Together with Erika Hiltbrunner , Körner carried out research at the alpine research station ALPFOR , Furkapass.

He has been a member of the Leopoldina since 2000 .

Körner has been retired since 2014.
