Kyle Tress lives in Ewing ( New Jersey ) and works as a software developer . He began skeleton in 2002 and has been part of the US national team since 2003. His first race was the US Junior Championships in 2003, in which he was tenth, a year later ninth. At the US Championships of the year he was 15. In November 2004 he drove his first race in the America's Cup and was 13th in Calgary , a month later Tress drove in Park City in seventh for the first time in the top ten. In November 2005 he made his debut in the European Cup in Igls , where he finished second behind Chris Hedquist and thus achieved his first excellent result. In qualifying for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games of Turin he could against strong competition in their own country but not prevail.
It was not until the beginning of 2008 that Tress achieved significant results again. At the US Championships in Lake Placid he was fifth, at the Intercontinental Cup race in Park City ninth and in Lake Placid fifth. In the overall ranking of the Intercontinental Cup of the 2007/08 season, Tress came in eighth. In December 2008 he made his debut in the World Cup and finished 19th on his favorite track in Igls. In the 2009/10 season he won the first three races of the America's Cup in Park City and was twice second and once third in the following five races of the season. He won the overall standings with 500 points ahead of Chris Burgess with 373 points. In the 2010/11 season he achieved his first podium in the Intercontinental Cup with second place in Winterberg . He competed in the second half of the season in the World Cup and barely missed the top 10 in eleventh in St. Moritz . In 2011, he also won bronze at the national championships for the first time. In winter 2011/12 Tress started in seven of the eight World Cup races and achieved his first single-digit placement in St. Moritz with eighth place. At the end of the season he had two more wins in the America's Cup .
At the beginning of the 2012/13 season Kyle Tress achieved his best result in the World Cup with fifth place in Lake Placid ; in the overall ranking he was 17th. In the following winter he achieved another fifth place at the World Cup in St. Moritz as well as two more top 10 places in Lake Placid and Igls, which made him twelfth in the overall World Cup. He then took part in the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi , where he missed the decisive fourth run and was 21st overall. Also in 2014/15 his best World Cup placement was a fifth place in Lake Placid; in the other races he could not place a single figure. At the World Championships in Winterberg he finished 15th in the individual and seventh in the team competition. In the 2015/16 season he does not contest any international competitions and works as a trainer for the US Intercontinental Cup team.
