Melissa Hoar

Melissa Hoar (born January 26, 1983 in Moruya ) is an Australian skeleton pilot .

Melissa Hoar lives in Dalmeny and has been doing skeleton since 2004. She is trained by Terry Holland and Ross Smith. The Australian made her international debut in November 2004 at the America's Cup . In February 2005 she won her first race in the Challenge Cup. That same month in Calgary , she was surprisingly 13th in her first participation in a Skeleton World Championship , after having been active in the sport for only eleven weeks. In November 2005, Hoar made his debut in the Skeleton World Cup . Her first race was in Calgary, where she finished 18th. Two races later she finished fifth and thus achieved her first place in the top ten and at the same time her best result in this competition to date. In qualifying for the 2006 Olympic Games , she could not prevail against Michelle Steele , but won gold at the Junior World Championships in Igls in February 2006 . She set the best times in both races and relegated the Germans Julia Eichhorn , Marion Trott and Kati Klinzing as well as her teammate Michelle Steele to the following ranks. In the post-Olympic season 2006/07 she achieved her best result so far with 18th place in the overall ranking of the World Cup.
