Katie Tannenbaum (born May 13, 1985 in California ) is an American skeleton pilot who competes for the US Virgin Islands .

Career

Katie Tannenbaum was born in California , where she grew up as the daughter of two professors and first studied mathematics and sports management at the University of California in Santa Barbara . She also completed a master's degree in environmental science and teaches mathematics at the University of the Virgin Islands . Her interest in the sport of skeleton was aroused by the Olympic Games in 2002 , but because of the distance to an ice channel, she initially did not pursue the goal of becoming a skeleton pilot. After graduating in 2007, she moved to the US Virgin Islands, where she worked for former bobsleigh athletes, among other things. A visit to the Whistler 2010 Olympics skeleton competitions was key in getting her started in skeleton.

Katie Tannenbaum made her international debut in skeleton in March 2011 in the Skeleton America's Cup with a twelfth place in Lake Placid , in the following season she repeated this result in four races and also took part in the higher-class Intercontinental Cup for the first time . She started at the 2012 Skeleton World Championship , but crashed there. In the following three winters she also took part in competitions in these two racing series. She achieved several top 10 places in the now renamed North American Cup at the end of 2013 and the end of 2014 ; in the Intercontinental Cup , her best results were two twelfth places in January 2015 in Calgary. At the 2015 World Championships in Winterberg , she finished 25th out of 29 participants.

In the winter of 2015/16 Katie Tannenbaum started with placements between 9th and 11th place in the North American Cup and Intercontinental Cup , before making her debut in the World Cup in Koenigssee in December , where she was the last of the 22 athletes.
