history

The first known settlers in the area of today's Larchmont, which was discovered by a Dutch navigator in 1614 , were Siwanoy , Indians from the Algonquin tribe. After the land was increasingly bought up by the British and Dutch at the beginning of the 18th century , only a few Indians lived in the area around 1720.

In the 19th century, mainly Quakers from New England and wealthy New Yorkers moved to the town, which was elevated to a parish in 1891.
