Life

Dick Smith is considered a pioneer and innovator of the modern make-up craft and began working for American television as early as the 1940s, where he quickly assumed a managerial position and was able to secure the reputation of a highly talented and skilled craftsman. Numerous techniques and materials, some of which are still in use today, go back to his work. In 1964 he published a textbook titled Dick Smith's Do-It-Yourself Monster Make-up Handbook , which was a reference work for many years and influenced countless professional colleagues.

Smith was one of the special guests at Monsterpalooza in October 2012.

Smith had been married to Jocelyn De Rosa since 1944, with whom he had two children.
