Stout was an American automobile brand. There are different details about the manufacturers.

Brand history

William B. Stout had experience in automotive and aircraft construction with WH McIntyre Company , Scripps-Booth and Packard . In 1932 he founded Stout Engineering Laboratories in Detroit , Michigan . In the same year he made a prototype .

After that, Stout founded a separate company. Some sources name the Stout Motor Car Company , while others name the Stout Motor Corporation and the Stout Motor Car Corporation . Three patents have been issued for the latter company name . Stout developed the project further. In 1935 the second vehicle was ready. Then the production of individual cars began. The brand name was Stout . Production initially ended in 1936.

Another vehicle followed in 1946. One source names Owens Corning as the manufacturer , another more precisely Owens-Corning Fiberglass Corporation at a plant in Newark , Ohio . This company is based in Toledo , Ohio.

There are different details about the number of pieces. One source states that there may have been no more than five. Another source names around nine production vehicles. A third source states that nine vehicles were made, five of which still exist.

The only model was the Stout Scarab . He was very progressive for his time. A V8 engine from Ford was mounted in the rear and drove to the rear axle. The original price was 5,000 US dollars .
