The Ironsmith Inc. was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Robert T. Koch founded the company on May 27, 1981 in Forest Lake , Minnesota . He started producing automobiles and kit cars around 1984 . The brand name was Ironsmith . Production ended in 1987. Two sources erroneously state the end of production as 1997. Another source names the 1980s and 1990s as the production period. On June 9, 1992 the company was dissolved.

One of the vehicle buyers was Jack Slocombe.

vehicles

The only model was a replica of a Bugatti Type 35 . The basis was a ladder frame with front wheel suspension from the Ford Mustang II , which was designed for a front engine. As a result, the vehicles were superior to many competing models that relied on a chassis from the VW Beetle . Various four-cylinder engines from Ford and V6 engines from Ford and Chevrolet were available.
