The AMT Corporation from Arizona was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in Phoenix , Arizona in 1965 . Egene Winfield ran it. It was a division of the AMT Corporation of Troy , Michigan that made plastic toy cars. Automobile production began with the acquisition of a prototype from Marbon Chemical Division of Borg Warner . The brand name was AMT . Production ended in 1968. A total of five or six vehicles were built. In 1969 the company was dissolved.

The only model was the piranha . The chassis and body were made of plastic. The vehicle was 3988 mm long with a wheelbase of 2413 mm . The gullwing doors were a striking feature of the coupé . A six - cylinder boxer engine from the Chevrolet Corvair powered the street and racing versions. It delivered either 140 hp or 180 hp with the help of a turbocharger . A version as a dragster had a V8 engine with 7000 cm³ displacement from Chrysler .

Sportsland Unlimited , a division of Allied Industries International , later made replicas .
