Howard A. Darrin Automotive Design was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Howard A. Darrin founded the company in Los Angeles , California in 1946 . At first he designed vehicles for Kaiser Motors . After their production cessation in the USA in 1955, he continued the production of a model under his own name. The brand name was Darrin . Production ended in 1958. Depending on the source, a total of 50 or 100 vehicles were built under their own name.

Darrin also designed a model for Flintridge Motor Manufacturing .

The only model was the successor to Kaiser Darrin . A chassis from Henry J with 254 cm wheelbase formed the basis. An open body made of fiberglass was mounted on top. The sliding doors were unusual . The vehicle length was 468 cm.

Darrin used different V8 engines from Cadillac . In the first model year the engine had a 96.8 mm bore , 92.1 mm stroke , 5426 cm³ displacement and 270 hp . In the following years 101.6 mm bore and 92.1 mm stroke resulted in 5981 cm³ displacement. In 1956 the engine output was 305 hp, 1957 325 hp and 1958 335 hp.
