California Touring Coach Co. was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was based in Newark , California . Other sources indicate San Leandro , California. In 1982 the production of automobiles and kit cars began . The brand name was California Touring , possibly with the addition of Coach or Coach Co. On September 30, 1982, the Los Angeles Times reported on a model of the company. Production ended in 1982 or around 1989.

The Munich was a replica of a Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC . The engine came from the Ford Mustang II and other parts such as the radiator grille and headlights from Mercedes-Benz .

The tank was a replica of the Porsche 935 . A chassis from the VW Beetle formed the basis. A closed body made of fiberglass was mounted on top. Various engines from Volkswagen and Porsche powered the vehicles. According to the newspaper report, assembling the kit should take around 120 hours of work.
