CAR Manufacturers Ltd. was an American manufacturer of automobiles . CAR stood for Classic Auto Reproductions .

Company history

The company was founded on September 10, 1981 in Babylon , New York . In 1982 the production of automobiles and kit cars began . The brand name was CAR . Production ended in 1984. On September 25, 1991 the company was dissolved.

vehicles

Replicas of historic Ford vehicles were on offer . The Special A was similar to the Ford Model A from 1929 and was available as both a Roadster and a Phaeton . The engine and drive train came either from the Ford Pinto or the Ford Mustang II .

The technically identical Special T was based on the Ford Thunderbird from 1957. One source names four-cylinder engines , V6 engines and V8 engines with 4736 cm³ and 4942 cm³ displacement .
