Gullwing Cars Inc. was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded on January 14, 1982 in Santa Ana , California . Other sources mention Gardena in California. The founder was Anton Ostermeier from Bavaria. In 1981, 1982 or 1984 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was US Gullwing , although a source indicates Gull-Wing Car Company . Some vehicles were exported to Japan . Production ended in 1989 or 1993 or 1995 at the earliest. After January 23, 2003 nothing is known anymore. Up to 1987, 18 vehicles had been delivered. Vehicle no. 34 is from 1989. Two sources give a total of around 250 vehicles.

Anton Ostermeier also operated West Coast Car Sales Inc. based in Gardena. This company existed from October 28, 1974 to July 5, 1996. One source says it was at times the manufacturer of the vehicles. The exact connection is unclear.

A source also names the Gull-Wing Car Co. in Gardena as a temporary manufacturer of the vehicles.

The only model was a replica of a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL . A lattice frame formed the base. Different engines drove the vehicles. These included a six-cylinder engine from the Mercedes-Benz 116 series with a displacement of 2800 cc as well as engines from Chrysler and Corvette . The gullwing doors were a striking feature of the coupé .
