Scarab (car brand)

Scarab (dt .: scarab ) was an American automobile brand that only 1,958 of the Reventlow Automobile Company in Los Angeles was built (California). The founder and owner of this company was the racing driver Lance Reventlow , the son of the department store heiress Barbara Hutton .

The two-seater roadster with a GRP body was only intended for racing, but was street legal. The chassis consisted of a tubular steel frame into which a De-Dion rear axle was suspended. The front wheels were suspended individually. The drive was provided by an overhead V8 engine from the Chevrolet Corvette , which drew an output of 385 bhp (283 kW) from 5572 cc. The car was fitted with magnesium wheels.

Only three copies were sold, then interest in this construction was gone again.
