Bernardi Auto Works Ltd. , previously Blakely Auto Works , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .
Company history
The company was founded on October 13, 1960. The seat was initially in Loves Park in Illinois . In 1972, the production of automobiles and kit cars began under the direction of Richard Paul Blakely . The brand name was Blakely . In 1980 Arthur Herschberger took over the company, which relocated to Princeton , Wisconsin . In 1985 the company name changed to Bernardi Auto Works . Production ended in 1987. In 1976 alone, 126 vehicles were built and a total of over 200.

The first Bantam model was a Lotus Seven- style vehicle . A tubular steel frame formed the basis. An open plastic body was mounted on top. A four-cylinder engine from the Ford Pinto powered the vehicles. A little later, one was rotary engine from Mazda available.
In 1975, a more comfortable model, the Bearcat, was added to the range. The vehicle had doors and better interiors. Plus, it was longer and heavier than the bantam .
After 1980 a revised Bearcat appeared with the Bernardi . A noticeable feature was a chrome grille with horizontal struts that came from the Oldsmobile Cutlass . Now were V6 engines from Ford for Bearcat and Bernardi available.
In the 1980s, the bantam was renamed the hawk .
