Company history

The company was founded on May 26, 1978 in Goleta , California . Other sources mention Santa Barbara . M. Broggie managed the company with 30 employees. Alfred DiMora, who later ran Clénet Coachworks , Thomas McBurnie, who later founded McBurnie Coachcraft , and Ray Kenney were involved. The first vehicle was presented and awarded at an exhibition in Los Angeles in 1978 . The brand name was Scepter . Production was limited to 500 vehicles from the start and ended in 1980.

One source states that around 15 vehicles were made. Another source suggests that 250 to 300 vehicles were sold in 1979 alone.

Gatsby Coachworks continued production under its own name.

vehicles

The only model was a 1930s-style vehicle. Contrary to the usual practice in the USA at the time, it had a European design and was somewhat similar to the BMW 328 and the Talbot-Lago . The chassis and engine were from the Mercury Cougar .
