American Mathis was an American manufacturer of automobiles .
Company history
William Durant of Durant Motors founded the company in Lansing , Michigan in 1930 . Edward Ver Linden was also involved. In 1931 the production of automobiles began. The license came from SA Mathis from France. The brand name was Mathis . In January 1931 there were vehicles on the New York Automobile Show . Plans totaled 100,000 vehicles annually. Bankruptcy began in April 1931 . In total, only a few vehicles were built.

The vehicles were based on the Mathis Type PY . They had a four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 1062 cm³ and an output of 12 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 244 cm . There was a choice of a coupe for 455 US dollars , a light delivery van for 445 dollars and a roadster .
One source suggests that this small European-sized car was too small for American buyers.
