Commer was a British commercial vehicle manufacturer founded as the Commercial Car Company in 1905 and operating until 1979.

In 1907 Commer produced his first truck in Luton , and from 1909 also a bus . During the First World War the company switched to military vehicles and built more than 3,000 trucks for the British Army by 1919.

In 1926 it was taken over by Humber after several bankruptcies , both of which became part of the Rootes Group in 1931 . Then she became known as a manufacturer of postal vehicles with the Commer FC and Dodge Spacevan.

Commer FC

Chrysler took over the Rootes Group in the 1970s. The name Commer was replaced by Dodge . In 1978 Chrysler sold its stakes in Europe to the Peugeot group, which worked with Renault on commercial vehicles and for a time sold Commer / Dodge light trucks as Renault . Production ended in 1993 and the tools came to China in 1994.

Today Renault produces engines for commercial vehicles.
