The Jeep Renegade is a mini SUV class vehicle from the manufacturer Jeep . It is built together with the Fiat 500X mini-SUV in Melfi (Italy) and since 2015 in Goiana ( Recife metropolitan region , Brazil) and is available in four equipment variants:
- Sports
- Longitude
- Limited
- Trailhawk
The Jeep Renegade was presented to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2014 . Production started at the end of August 2014. The Renegade is the first Jeep to be largely developed in the United States, but exclusively produced outside of North America.
With its round main headlights, the seven vertical struts in the radiator grille and the window line with the indicated half-doors, the Renegade is reminiscent of the Willys Ur-Jeep. As with the Jeep Cherokee, the Trailhawk was developed specifically for off-road use that corresponds to the Jeep “Trail Rated” standards.
In 2014 it received the top rating of five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test. In April 2015, it was voted “Car of the Year” by Auto Bild Allrad magazine (category “Imported SUVs and SUVs up to € 30,000”).
Furnishing
Among other things, an active parking assistant for parallel / perpendicular parking, an adaptive cruise control system, the ParkView reversing camera with dynamic guidance lines, the keyless vehicle access Keyless Enter-N-Go, heated front seats and steering wheel as well as the smart fuel tank system are available.
Depending on the equipment line, the interior decor elements are silver, red or orange. In addition to classic interior concepts, the Renegade also offers a selection of unusual and independent design themes, such as the skateboarding interior in light gray / brown / orange for the "Limited" equipment line. Functionally, it offers, like the Jeep Wrangler-inspired grab handle on the passenger side, the electromechanical parking brake, the steering wheel with adjustable height and reach and a front passenger seat that can be folded down.
It already has a uconnect - Bluetooth hands- free system and a multimedia system with a 5 "touchscreen color display and additional control via the steering wheel as standard . The Beats Audio sound system with eight loudspeakers , a subwoofer in the trunk and 506 watts of music output are also available as standard two different navigation systems: The Smartouch VP4 navigation system has a 6.5 "touchscreen, 3D navigation and free text voice input.
The 7 "TFT color display in the instrument cluster of the Jeep Renegade digitally shows the speed, fuel consumption, navigation instructions and detailed information about vehicle systems such as the Selec Terrain assistance system. Also all necessary information about driver assistance systems such as parking assistant, adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning Lane Sense are shown in the central display.
The Selec Terrain System offers the option of adapting the vehicle to a wide variety of driving requirements and terrain. Four settings are available for this: "Auto", "Snow", "Sand" and "Mud". In the Trailhawk version, the Renegade also has the "Rock" mode for increased off-road capability. The operating switch is used to select the respective surface and Selec-Terrain automatically coordinates up to twelve different vehicle control systems - from stability and traction control to torque distribution to shift points and throttle response.
Engines
A range of engines is available with MultiJet diesel and MultiAir petrol engines up to 125 kW (170 PS) and with a combined standard consumption from 4.6 l / 100 km. There is a choice of front-wheel drive and the all-wheel drive systems Jeep Active Drive and Jeep Active Drive Low . However, both are only activated when they are needed in the driving situation. During normal driving, they are deactivated including the cardan shaft.
In August 2018 the Renegade received a facelift. Since then, all engines have met the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard and there have been external changes. The new petrol engines have a displacement of 1.0 or 1.3 liters.
At the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019, Jeep presented the Renegade and the Compass with plug-in hybrid drive. A 1.3-liter gasoline engine drives the front wheels and an electric motor drives the rear wheels. The system output of the SUV is up to 177 kW (240 PS), and the manufacturer specifies an electric range of 50 km. The plug-in hybrids have been available since 2020.
