The Willys Jeep Station Wagon was introduced in 1946. Initially it was just the 463 model , powered by the well-known Willys Go Devil engine L-134 , a side-controlled inline four-cylinder. The model 663 with the side-controlled in-line six-cylinder engine Willys Lightning L-148 came out in 1948. In 1949 a four-wheel drive could optionally be ordered.
In 1950 there were a number of changes. The flat grille was replaced by a V-shaped version with five horizontal bars crossing the vertical ones. There were also new engines: the model 473 got the new Willys Hurricane engine F-134 and the model 673 had a 2590 cc version of the Lightning six-cylinder. Another big change this year was the addition of the new sedan delivery van to the model range.
In 1952, the side-controlled Lightning engine was dropped in favor of the Willys Hurricane F-161 , which was installed in the Model 685 .
The 1954 model year was the first under the new owner Kaiser . The 6-226 Super Hurricane engine , a side-controlled straight-six, was introduced. This was a version of the Kaiser Supersonic / Continental Red Seal motors.
In 1955 a number of new models were added. The 6-226 series got a model with a bare chassis, one with only a front end, one with front end and a windshield and an ambulance. The 475 series was only available with a stem and windshield.
In 1958 the new Maverick model was introduced, a comparatively luxurious version of the rear-wheel drive wagon. You could order it with either a four- or six-cylinder engine.
The Jeep Tornado engine 6-230 with overhead camshaft was introduced in mid-1962 and replaced the side-controlled engine.
Production was stopped in 1965. The successor was the Jeep Wagoneer . Over 300,000 copies of the wagon were made in all variations.
