The Jeep Compass is a compact SUV that was first introduced at the North American International Auto Show in 2006. The market launch in Germany was in the first half of 2007.
Together with the Jeep Patriot, it is Jeep's entry-level model. Both models are based on the same platform as the Dodge Caliber and, like the latter, are manufactured at the Belvidere plant in Illinois ( USA ). In the USA, the Compass is the first Jeep model to be available with front-wheel drive in decades . The turning circle is 10.80 m for the models equipped with 17 inch wheels and 11.30 m for the models equipped with 18 inch wheels. The c w value is 0.4.
In Germany, the Compass models were exclusively with the Freedom Drive I mentioned all-wheel drive delivered. The engine for all models was an inline four-cylinder gasoline engine with 2.4 l displacement and 125 kW (170 hp). The power was transmitted via a manually shifted five-speed gearbox or optionally a continuously variable V-belt gear . In addition, the Compass is only available in Europe with a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel engine (2.0 CRD) with 103 kW (140 PS). This four-cylinder engine comes from the VW Group and corresponds to the 2.0 TDI engine known there. It is equipped with a diesel particulate filter as standard in the Compass. Power was transmitted via a manually shifted six-speed gearbox .
The Jeep Compass was officially withdrawn from the Chrysler Germany program in the second half of 2009. According to KBA statistics, the Compass only found 111 buyers in the first half of 2009. In other countries, including the USA, it continued to be sold as a new car.

Chrysler re-launched the Compass in 2011 under Fiat leadership, in January in the US and in May in Germany. The front and rear of the model as well as the interior have been heavily revised and the engines have been modified. The engines available for all models were a 2.0-l R4 petrol engine with 115 kW (156 hp) and the 2.4-l R4 petrol engine with 125 kW (170 hp). In March 2011, the 2.0 CRD diesel engine was replaced by a 2.2 CRD with 100 kW (136 PS) and 120 kW (163 PS).
The two more powerful engines are available with an all-wheel drive system ("Freedom Drive I"), the two weaker engines with pure front-wheel drive.
The Jeep Compass, like the other models of the brand, contributes to the increasing success of the Fiat group with high growth rates. In the USA alone, sales increased from 11,700 units in 2009 to around 53,000 units in 2013.

Crash test, 2012
The Jeep Compass only achieved two stars in the Euro NCAP test.
Remote control via software, Uconnect entertainment system, 2015
Charlie Miller, security researcher at Twitter and former NSA hacker, and Chris Valasek, director of vehicle security at consulting firm IOActive, showed how a Jeep Cherokee can be remotely controlled via its Uconnect entertainment system using a laptop and mobile phone. FCA then called back 1.4 million vehicles of different brands that are equipped with Uconnect.
