The automotive holding Stellantis NV ( participle from Latin stellare , `` cast with stars '' ) emerged in 2021 from the merger of the automotive groups Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) from Italy and Groupe PSA (PSA) from France. With its 14 brands, the group is the fourth largest automobile manufacturer in the world in terms of vehicles sold .

story

After the failure of talks for a merger with Renault , FCA looked for a new partner in 2019, which it found in PSA. The merger of the two groups was announced on October 31, 2019.

The EU Competition Commission announced on June 17, 2020 that it was initiating an investigation into the merger. In December 2020, the approval was granted subject to conditions.

At the end of September, the FCA and PSA each nominated five members for the 11-member supervisory board of the future company; According to the merger agreement of December 2019, the 11th member should be Carlos Tavares , currently CEO of PSA. In September 2020, however, it was decided that PSA will have six and FCA five supervisory board seats. While John Elkann , President of FCA, and Carlos Tavares are nominated, nine members of the Supervisory Board are appointed by shareholders.

On January 4, 2021, the shareholders of FCA and PSA approved all items of the merger agreement by more than 99.8% at separate extraordinary general meetings. On January 16, the final legal steps required to merge the FCA and PSA holdings were officially completed. The new Stellantis shares will be listed for the first time in Paris and Milan on January 18 and in New York on January 19.
