Carlos Tavares

Carlos Tavares (born August 14, 1958 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese manager. He initially worked for Nissan in the USA for five years , after which he was an executive at Renault for 32 years . Since January 1, 2014, he has been CEO of PSA Peugeot Citroën , France's largest car manufacturer.
Life
Carlos Tavares grew up in Lisbon in a family of a French teacher and attended the Lycée Français Charles Lepierre in Lisbon, before he moved to the Lycée Pierre-de-Fermat in Toulouse in 1976 and attended preparatory classes. He studied at the École Centrale Paris , one of the oldest and most renowned engineering schools in France.
Career
Tavares began his professional career at Renault in 1981. He worked on the design team for the Renault Mégane RS . Then he worked for Renault's cooperation partner Nissan . From 2009 he headed Nissan's operations in North and South America. Since 2013 he has been a manager at Renault.
In 2014 he was appointed CEO of PSA Peugeot Citroën, where he replaced Philippe Varin . He implemented cost savings and increased the company's market share in China .
At the end of July 2017, the French took over the Opel and Vauxhall brands for around 1.3 billion euros from the then parent company General Motors (GM).
Private
Tavares has three children. He had been an amateur racing driver since the age of 22 and took part in the Monte Carlo Rally . He collects vintage cars and owns a "1979 Peugeot 504 V6 Coupé, a 1976 Alpine A110 and a Porsche 912 from 1966".
