Isidis Planitia is a circular, vast plain on the northern hemisphere of the planet Mars . It is the second largest impact basin on Mars after Hellas Planitia and before Argyre Planitia . In its north-east, Isidis Planitia merges into the even larger plain of Utopia Planitia .
On December 25, 2003, the Beagle 2 lander of the ESA Mars Express probe descended on this plane (planned: 10.6 ° N, 270 ° W); however, no radio contact was successful.
