Official names of structures on celestial bodies are given by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). The lists are administered by the US Geological Survey (USGS) in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature (see web links). They are updated online.

There are innumerable impact craters on Mars , but only a few have their own name. This list only includes the named Martian craters . Craters on Mars are named after famous scientists and science fiction authors or after earthly cities (with a population of less than 100,000).
