The Dodge Journey is a crossover model from the Dodge brand and has been available on the US market since early 2008. In automotive engineering, a crossover refers to the use of components from different vehicle types in one model type, in this case the sport utility vehicle and MPV . The Journey and its sister model Fiat Freemont are manufactured in Toluca, Mexico .
The Journey was available on the German market from June 2008 to the end of 2010. This was replaced in the summer of 2011 by the largely identical Fiat Freemont , which is more tailored to European needs in terms of engine, chassis and equipment.
history
The Journey is based on the same platform as the crossover model of the sister brand Chrysler , the Pacifica , which in turn is based on a modified platform of the Dodge Avenger and Mitsubishi Outlander and also with the same engines (VW 2.0 l PD Diesel , Mitsubishi 2.4-liter gasoline engine).
The vehicle has up to seven seats and a flexibly changeable interior. The standard safety equipment includes side airbags at the front and head airbags for all three rows of seats. The vehicle's equipment includes a reversing camera, a video entertainment system, a coolable glove compartment and a separately controllable automatic climate control system between the front seats and the rear rows of seats. In the footwell behind the front seats there are concealed storage compartments which, among other things, can be stocked with drinks and filled with ice to keep them cool. Furthermore, there is an optional compartment for valuables, hidden in the passenger seat. The whole car is designed for family business. The surfaces are easy to clean and the covers are very durable.
Facelift
In autumn 2010 the Journey received a facelift , including modified sills , a modified radiator grille and the new Dodge logo . The revised model is no longer offered by Dodge in Europe after Dodge has withdrawn from the European market. An identical model was sold briefly by Fiat and has been offered by Fiat as the " Freemont " model since 2011 after an extensive facelift, which mainly includes a fundamentally revised interior and a better tuned chassis .
Motors / drive
The Dodge Journey has front-wheel drive as standard . The engines include a 2.0-liter VW diesel engine with pump-nozzle injection and 103 kW, the 2.4-liter GEMA world engine with 125 kW and a 2.7-liter V6 gasoline engine with 136 kW (185 hp). A 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine with 173 kW is used as the top engine in the top model Journey R / T (optionally also in the SXT model). The R / T and SXT models are also available with all-wheel drive in the US . The Journey is not offered with a diesel engine in North America.
In Europe, on the other hand, neither the 3.5 V6 engine nor all-wheel drive are offered, and in Germany only the 2.4-liter engine is available as gasoline. The only gasoline variant available in Austria is the 2.7-L-V6.
transmission
The diesel model is available with a manual six-speed gearbox (Aisin BG6) or optionally with an automatic six-speed gearbox with double clutch ( Getrag MPS6).
The 2.4-liter engine is shifted either via a manual five-speed gearbox (MP T355) or a four-speed automatic transmission (41TES). The two V6 engines are available in conjunction with a six-speed automatic transmission (62TE).
Readings
The turning radius is 11.70 m, the c w value is 0.368. The standard rim sizes are between 16 × 6.5 (basic model) and 19 × 7.0 (R / T).
