The Dodge Avenger (English for avenger ) is a mid-range sedan presented in spring 2007 by the US car manufacturer Dodge . Dodge previously used the Hillman name from spring 1995 to mid-2000 for a sports coupe . In Israel the model bears the less martial sales name Dodge Evangeline R ( דודג אוונג 'ר).

The Dodge Avenger is manufactured for most markets at the Sterling Heights plant in Michigan ( USA ). The Chrysler Sebring sedan and convertible (since 2011: Chrysler 200 ) are also built there. The units for the Mexican market, on the other hand, have come from the Dodge plant in Chihuahua since spring 2013 . There it is being built in an extended version. In addition, an identical model rolls off the production line under the name Dodge GTS .

Model history

From September 2007 there was the Avenger on the European markets. Unlike in North America, the Avenger in Europe with the already from the Dodge Caliber and Chrysler Sebring known 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine with 103 kW (140 hp) of Volkswagen in connection with a manually shifted six-speed gearbox offered. The gasoline engine with 115 kW (156 hp) with five-speed manual transmission is also known from the Dodge Caliber.

All models have individually suspended wheels, at the front on MacPherson struts with gas pressure shock absorbers , wishbones and a stabilizer , at the rear with a multi-link axle with coil springs and stabilizer and gas pressure shock absorbers. Both axles are mounted on decoupled (rubber- mounted ) subframes .

The steering is a rack and pinion with speed-dependent servo , the turning circle is 11.13 m. The drag coefficient (C w ) is 0.318.

The Avenger can optionally with the MYGIG system be equipped, which is a CD / DVD / HDD / MP3 / satellite navigation radio with a 20 Gigabyte - hard disk and a touch-sensitive 6.5 inch TFT display is. Engines / equipment

In Germany, the Avenger was offered with the 2.0 CRDi and 103 kW (140 PS) a 2.0 l gasoline engine with two overhead camshafts and 115 kW (156 PS), the latter with a five-speed gearbox (instead of six gears as in the diesel ) was connected.

A V6 engine with a displacement of 2.7 liters was available with one overhead camshaft per cylinder row. It was not only available for operation with normal gasoline, but also as a flexible fuel version with 141 kW (192 hp), which can be filled with E-85 fuel in addition to conventional gasoline . The power of this engine is transmitted by a four-speed automatic with overdrive , as is the case with the 129 kW (175 hp) and 2.4 liter inline four-cylinder engine. Some of this model is also available with the much better six-speed automatic (with Autostick), then mostly as an import model from neighboring European countries.

The top model of the series is the Avenger R / T AWD with a 3.5-liter V6 engine and an output of 175 kW (238 hp), which is equipped with a six-speed automatic (with Autostick) and four-wheel drive .

The equipment lines are SE and SXT, although the equipment varies depending on the country of delivery. The SXT line is always the higher quality. The MyGig Uconnect has a fully equipped SXT with a coordinated Boston digital audio box system, leather seats, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, cooling compartment for cans, automatic climate control, heatable and coolable cup holders in the center console, tire pressure monitoring, an on-board computer and various chrome applications in and at the car.

In September 2009 the Avenger (like the Chrysler Sebring) was taken out of the program in Germany.

Facelift

Dodge Avenger (since 2011)

In early 2011, the Avenger underwent a gentle facelift. There was also a choice of a new V6 engine with a displacement of 3.6 liters and 210 kW (286 hp). Externally, only slightly modified sills, rear lights and headlights can be seen, but the interior has been completely redesigned.
